That one looks like a False Widow, and a good looking one at that.
What state did the shipment originate from?

The shipment was out of North Carolina. I have it in a deli cup right now. Are they normally around VA?

We have native False Widows, however the ones I usually see have a dull black abdomen.
Yours appears to be a Steatoda paykulliana, which is a documented, introduced species from several areas on both the East and West coast. Makes sense due to importation locations.
It sure is a pretty little beast, however use a bit of care when handling. Some False Widows can have a nasty bite depending on how your body reacts.

The spider is a Common House Spider (Steatoda triangulosa) For additional information see:

The False Black Widow is a Coastal species.

And that right there folks is why I certainly don't claim to be well versed on spiders.
The similarities with the specimen in the link below is quite impressive.

On an interesting side note, many pieces of literature list this species as a False Widow, however it is harmless. Unless they are wrong it would seem that they aren't limited to coastal areas.
