PostSubject: FRUIT FLY INVASION!!   Sat Oct 19, 2013 12:00 am

So in the last couple weeks the fruit flies and fruit fly MAGGOTS have been terrible! I mean I literally had a hatchling pass away (premature hatchling) last night early this morning...and I went to spray tonight and checked on....FULL of maggots. At that rate they literally would have eaten the whole gecko by tomorrow. Anyone have any advise as to how to get rid of them?? I know they like moisture..but I have to spray them at least once a day..

We had some "Flight Less" Fruit flies that managed to get out of the Dart Frog enclosure was a nightmare. we had to buy the strips/traps for them and literally within days none left after being invaded for a month almost trying to get rid of them.

As far as the maggots go and inside an enclosure I have no idea, with the exception of full clean out.

What type of incubator are you using? As long as it's airtight, flies shouldn't get in. Most flies I have experienced are feeding off of something that can be removed with the exception of fungus gnats, which are very common in planted terrariums. They will typically arrive in new plants or other live/fresh substrates. Weevils will follow dry food but I've never seen them mess with any living organism.

Clean everything, and break out some apple cider and dish soap traps.

Sorry, apple vinegar with just a drop of dish soap. I put it in a gallon jug and sit it in the room. Works like a champ.
