PostSubject: Ball Python no longer hiding?   Tue Jul 02, 2013 10:52 pm

A little while ago, I rescued a ball python, about 4 feet long and weighing in at under 1 pound. I wasn't sure if it was going to survive. In any event, I started feeding it (him, really) properly, and gave him a hidebox, which he wouldn't leave (he'd never had one before)
Trouble was, he'd soil the hidebox and it got to the point I had to make him a new one.

He won't use it (made from a shoebox)
Thinking it too small, I made a bigger one.
He won't use that one either.
He hides under the sphagnum moss now, and I'm somewhat concerned.
He still eats like a pig, but I've never known a BP not to use a hidebox immediately upon finding it.

Suggestions? Advice?

Snakes will be snakes. If he's eating good and is in good health with you then he's fine. Wink don't stress out.

They like it when the ceiling of the hide can touch their back. The tighter the spot and more surface area they can have touch their skin, the better. I breed on newspaper and I have some that would rather be under that than the hides. It seems darker too. The new spot could also be a more desirable temp at the moment.
