PostSubject: Gun Question   Sun Jun 23, 2013 2:46 pm

I know next to nothing about guns. A .22  caliber is a small bore rifle (one of the smallest)? I know some one who hunts deer with a .240 rifle. Wouldn't a .240 bullet be just slight larger than .22? Why is a .240 called a .240 and not a .24 caliber?

A .22 caliber is smaller than a .240, but I'm not sure why the .240 isnt called a .24 caliber. Firearm cartridges are sometimes named really weird. For example a .30-30 is named for .30 caliber and 30 grains which is the original amount of powder loaded in the cartridge or .30-06 which is for a .30 caliber bullet and 1906 which is when the US military adopted the cartridge for use.

I can't find too much on the .240 as for comparison but is a larger round than a .22
It's more of a big game shot and a .22 a varmint shot... hope this help...
