Has anyone ever seen one for sale? I have heard they are occasionally imported. Also heard the tadpoles will only feed on some sort of plant found only in the native rivers, so captive breeding in the US is impossible. Anyone know anything further? I would love to have an outdoor colony of these when I am living on the farm.

Of course, now that I think about it, my wife is French. I better not get these, she probably could not resist eating the legs. =)

For that same reason, I cannot ever have pet snails. Hahahaha

I might be French, I have never eaten any frog legs in my life, or any other part of a frog or toad or even snails, just like I'll never eat horse meat unless I'm starving to death and need it to survive and, of course, if you're not around either lol! O:)... bounce

Then how do you explain the fact we have two freezers in our house, and both are filled with commercial frog legs from our local grocer? lol!

They are an endangered species and have very specific habitat requirements, fast-flowing rainforest creeks/rivers and waterfalls, that have a sandy bottom and rocks covered with Dicraea warmingii warmingii, the primary food source tadpoles.

To date captive breeding attempts have failed and the only effective method of maintaining populations is by protecting their natural habitat.
