I’m not sure. That pic was taken at Cruthfield’s farm December of 2010. Tom got it from someone when he got out of prison. It was that size when he got it….no idea how old it is.

They are, by far, my favorite turtle. I am really looking forward to stocking at least one pond with a few of them. Would love to put about 100 on the market each year….making sure they are less and less endangered each year. =)

Not now, well not soon at least... I want one in the near ish future, but it prob won't be for a year or so... I'm working on getting my ball python breeding going, my current turtles into a beast custom tank, my savannah into a custom tank and custom vision tanks for my "show" reptiles... as well as wanting to build a live vivarium and getting cresties and a GTP... lol I have some projects I'm working on before I can get a new eventually LARGE turtle...

Good planning, only thing I would add is, a baby allie snapper is about the size of a quarter. One doesn’t need an outlandish outside set up to get started. =)

How long does he stay that small though? And he would need another setup of his own because he couldn't go in with my other turtles...

Well I looked into there growth rate and it actually is not bad... it seems like most only grow a few inches each year... hmmm... maybe after I build my indoor pond turtle tank I'll get one to put in the tank I currently have my DBT on...

Sounds like a great plan. They view other turtles as food, so keep in mind they are not a good community turtle. =)

Also, I am pretty sure those Diamondback Terrapins are illegal in IL….i guess you better go ahead and send those to Silvia and I now…so we can go ahead and get them set up. smb2585

Hahahaha, that's actually something I need to look into for the most, I know none of my snakes will be a prob to transport because they are small enough not to fall into the laws... but my other reptiles I need to check and make sure I can bring in and have I'm IL... you brought up a great point...

I took the liberty of checking the IL codes for you….dang, seems they are pretty harsh up there when it comes to Diamondback Terrapins.

State of IL law code
Section IV Sub Section VIII paragraph XII Line 423.3
“It shall be a class A felony punishable by death (Electric chair, lethal injection, or gas chamber) for anyone to be found in position of a Diamondback Terrapin at anytime.”

As a friend, I can’t allow you to take that risk…..I’ll have Silvia set up a pond, you go ahead and drop those in the male tomorrow. No need to thank me, it’s just what friends do.
