PostSubject: cresty seizure?   Sun Dec 02, 2012 10:17 pm

SO, I bought a beautiful hatchling from someone local, and it appears he/she has "seizures" shortly after handling. The gecko's parents were allproperly cared for, this little one LOOKS perfectly fine health wise, eats well, drinks, climbs...I also have the sibling of this gecko (also a hatchling) and it is perfectly fine, having no seizures. When the little one has these episodes, it opens its mouth as wide as it will go, it's whole body twists and turns and it sometimes throws itself violently. A few minutes later it is back to normal.

I am of course getting my money back, but what the heck is going on?!? I'm pissed because this gecko is a beautiful red partial pinner! SO MAD and confused!

I've never seen this. You should take a video.

You can upload it to photobucket, just like a picture. I really would be interested to see it.

Please understand that i was not trying to antagonize him..i was just trying to capture this. I don't normally poke and prode my geckos. Also, notice how before he had the episode his pupils were getting large. When a gecko passes, it seems like there pupils get large? When he is done, his pupils are normal or small..ans i SWEAR he looks dead and wont move unless youre still. He's a bit wobly after...

Oh geez, that's really horrifying. O_O I've never seen that except in videos of reptiles very close to death.

Not to necessarily say he is, but that is definitely some interesting behavior.

I agree with you about his pupils, they constrict and dilate very obviously before and after the episode.

This is weird, because I thought one of the first signs of considerable stress in lizards like Cresties was the tail-drop. This little guy has a tail and shows no signs of dropping it, so he can only be but so antagonized by whatever is happening. I don't know much about lizards though, so I could be completely pulling that out of my @$$.

I hope you get this sorted out, that definitely doesn't seem normal. :c

Yeah, his tail is just now getting the teeniest kink in it..but it's very unnoticable. And by now he's had quite a few of these episodes. While recording the video today , it was rather hard to get him to have his issue, and i noticed that moving the pen closer to him or my shadow almost seemed to either scare him or piss him off. He actually stuck at the pen at one point, like he's defending himself. From what iv'e read online some peoplehave had cresties have similar problems (but no videos) out of fear, calcium crash, or neurological problems. He is eating perfectly fine and as long as i don't pick him up, he will eat off my finger. I'm stumped. Like I said I'm getting my money back because I'd hate to pass it on..but I'm honestly so torn on how to feel about it.

Wow, that's a significant period of time :c

As long as you have his setup right and his nutritional needs met, I really cannot imagine why this wouldn't have at least gotten slightly better in two weeks. I don't blame you for seeking a refund. Are you returning him or keeping him?

If you keep him, I definitely don't blame you for not wanting to pass this trait on in a breeding project. It's obviously not so bad that it's detrimental to his everyday life, but it's really not something you'd want him to pass to offspring.

That is, to say, if this was something that could be fixed and wasn't some type of genetic tick.

I am returning him, and getting another sibling when they hatch. I just don't want to be stuck with the little guy either if I don't know what it is.

Sorry if I missed it, but has it been getting calcium and vitamins? Oncoming MBD will cause seizures in cresteds.

I hope the little guy survives and I really hope they don't attempt to breed him. That looks uncomfortable. :/
