I've been thinking about getting a pair and just wanted to see what others thought about them.

Nope but I do have a Woma. I was heavily torn between a Woma and a BHP so I spent a lot of time on this forum aussiepythons.com to learn about them. Ended up going for the Woma because they are a little smaller and more within my price range LOL.

I've heard A LOT about BOTH of these snakes 110% feeding drive. Heard about them trying to eat everything when they smell a rat in the room. and I will tell you my own Woma lives up to the reputation. He's locked onto all sorts of things durring feeding time. When I am thawing rodents, I have to hook him out of his cage because he's ready to go. He's tried to eat the hook. Tried to eat himself. Tried to eat a towel. of course it goes without saying he's tried to eat me LOL.

IN their defence, My woma, and what I've HEARD about BHP, is/are COMPLETELY puppy-dog tame when there isn't anything food-like around!

They are extremely easy to care for. very minimal humidity needs, They aren't known to have any issues at all with shedding, going off feed, stressing out easily... none of that. They reproduce easily in captivity, ect.

Personally, if I had the space and cash, I wouldn't hesitate to add a BHP to my collection.

BhpS are the way to go if you can afford them. I have some contacts that have very high end BHPs. Let me know if I can help you out

Here you go, Googled images of Black Headed Pythons - Australian Python species that is very atypical for pythons in general. No visible Heat Pits, Smaller more "colubrid style" heads, thinner bodies, overall very unique species (except of course for their cousins!)

Here's a cool link I noticed today on The Reptile Report.

http://www.moreliapythons.com/forums/showthread.php?34601-Western-Black-Headed-Pythons

From an evolutionary perspective, I wonder why these guys developed black heads? I'm sure it was a defensive mechanism, but I haven't seen it with other snake species so it makes me wonder.

The black head is for thermal regulation. The snakes can remain in burrows, exposing their head and neck to sunlight and warm their entire body.
