PostSubject: First eggs of the season   Thu Mar 29, 2012 11:32 pm

I just found my first eggs of the season. Totally not ready for eggs. I thought my closest girls were going through their prelay shed. This is the second time this same girl has surprised me with eggs. She had a clutch almost 2 years to the day. I will post pics Friday when I take the eggs from her. Right now I am letting my temporary incubator stabilize. Don't know how many eggs yet but she usually has 6-8. Not sure why I can't seem to figure this girl out. She was bred to my lesser/woma.

On a side note I picked up a 40 tub hatchling rack along with bowls, thermostat, and 50-75 feet of extra heat tape. Now I will have enough hatchling tubs if all my females lay this year. All in all a pretty good afternoon.

Yeah 300 bucks for the racks, a base with casters, thermostat, therometer, bowls. and a bunch of extra heat tape. I picked them up last night. The funny part is when I got there I realized I bought 3 other hatchling racks from the same guy last year.

I actually needed them. I bred 12 females this year so if all of them go the 50 hatchling tubs I had would not be enough.

I don't use any substrate in my egg box. Put the diffuser in the egg box and sit the eggs on the diffuser. The main point of substrate in to hold moisture. When you are heating the water humidity is 100% inside the incubator.
