Congratulations, Don!

Nick if I remember correctly, the reptile house at the VA Zoo has at least one eastern indigo.

Awesome! I haven't seen one in person yet, although, I probably walked by it a dozen times at the zoo Facepalm

Congratulations, Don!

Nick, the eastern indigo at the VA zoo died of old age a few years ago.
I was told that once the Reptile House is remodeled they would like to get another indigo.

We will be at the Hampton show this weekend, however, I do not think it is in the best interest of the baby to bring her. She needs to acclimate into her new home. I may bring her to the Richmond Expo, but will have to see how she is doing. Her health and comfort comes first.

And, yes - I'll take lots and lots of pics. Y'all will probably be sick of seeing her with all the pics I post. I'm so excited, nervous and hopeful that I can not describe it. I'm hoping that she will be a great ambassador for reptiles and native North American species. I'm getting her because I want to make sure this species survives but also to use her as an educational specimen to help bring the beauty and wonder of the reptile world to people who do not understand it. We do several educational events through out the year and try to promote native species as well as reptiles in general.

In fact, every educational session we do, I urge folks to join VHS. It isn't just about pets, it is about preserving the really neat stuff that is in all of our back yards. The Eastern Indigo may not be in our Virginia back yards, but it is the largest snake native to North America and a very special threatened species.

I don't think I'm going to sleep well until she is home and safe.

I will be keeping you and Ripley in my thoughts until we hear that she is home safe with you. How lucky is she to be able to come home to an owner as dedicated as you?

thanks rocialhabit. I'm not really happy with the seller right now. He dropped her off for shipment yesterday MORNING at 8:15am. He also sent her standard overnight rather than priority overnight, so she is only guaranteed to be here by 3pm. She is currently in Mechanicsville and I'm sitting here waiting.

When I ship, I always do a late afternoon drop off and a priority by 10:30am shipment.
